Making A Debut: Tony Banks, Tony Blackburn, Jo Brand, Ann Bryson, John Fortune, Mariella Frostrup, Jeremy Hardy, Hattie Hayridge, Kit Hesketh-Harvey, Neil Mullarkey, Graham Norton, Nick Revell, Ted Robbins, Arthur Smith, Richard Vranch. Commentary: The first successful translation of the show to TV was done by a London regional station. Nicholas was chairman with Tony Slattery, well-known at the time for his contributions to many TV shows, especially Whose Line Is It Anyway. Paul Merton turned down the chance of a regular gig. Of the other regulars Clement Freud and Derek Nimmo made appearances but the emphasis was on the younger comedians, most of who had not appeared in JAM before. The result is a mix of good moments but an awful lot of dross as well. Two gimmicks featured in the show, a mystery object round, rather ruined by poor photography of the object and a round where the audience suggested a topic. Many of the topics were based around London scenery which also seems to limit the capacity for humour. Two previous attempts at JAM TV pilots had been made, but none made it to air except in Kenneth Williams documentaries. 1/1/1 Click here for transcript Broadcast date: 6 January 1994.
