Commentary:
As part of the celebration of 45 years of Just A Minute, the BBC recorded 10 shows which played in prime-time for the first time, at 6pm Monday to Friday over two weeks. A conscious effort was made to be as faithful to the radio series as possible and most of the cast was made up of experienced players of the game. After turning down the previous TV versions Paul Merton agreed to participate and appeared in all 10 shows. Sheila Hancock, Jenny Eclair and Ross Noble were unavailable but otherwise most of the semi-regulars of the radio shows appeared. The show aired to some negative reaction from those who believed the show could never succeed on TV, but the shows were certainly better than previous TV versions, with some ranking with the very best radio editions. And the chance to see the players interacting means these shows will be treasured by JAM fans for a very long time.
